Luanda International Airport is situated 5 km from the cemtre of the Angolan capital city of Luanda. It is the Republic of Angola’s main airport linking the rest of the world to the rest of Angola via an extensive network of provincial airports. The Portuguese name “Quatro de Fevereiro” refers to the date that an armed struggle began against colonial rule that led to the country’s independence. Due to increased economic growth in the country, largely fuelled by oil reserves, a new airport is currently under construction that will replace it. The estimated completion date has been delayed and not yet finalised. Associação da Escola Internacional de Luanda (LISA) is a non-profit organization with its headquarters in Luanda, Angola. Among other aims, LISA was established in order to set up and administer an English language school. The Luanda International School (LIS) opened its doors on 26 October 1996 with 27 students. LIS was located in the City of Luanda at Rua de Cambambe, 21-23, Bairro de Patrice Lumumba. LIS was the brainchild of the “Founding Five”: Roger Ballard Tremeer (South African Ambassador to Angola), Carmen Campbell-Hewitt (Educational Psychologist and First Headmistress), Florbela Lopes (interested parent and Business Administrator), Emilienne Macauley (interested parent), and Doreen Verster (interested parent). Their mission was to offer, in the medium of English, a high calibre, international pre-primary and primary educational programme open to all nationalities. Caruso’s Restaurant began in 1976 when Joe and Barb Caruso purchased Doc Caccamo’s Pizzeria. Joe and Barb met in 1960, while working at the Hobby House Restaurant in Fort Wayne. Joe followed the Caruso family tradition and began a career at Joslyn Stainless Steel Mill to support his growing family. His Italian heritage gave him a passion for cooking, and he and Barb dreamed of someday owning their own restaurant. Steuben County was a favorite camping destination for the family, and Doc Caccamo’s Pizzeria was a special treat for the kids during the summer weekends. The opportunity for Joe and Barb’s dream became a reality when Doc and Londi decided to retire and sell the restaurant.
