The Kasdi Merbah Ouargla University has its origins in the Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) established by Decree No. 65-88 of 22 March 1988. In 1997, by Decree No. 159-97 of 10 March 1997 is created the University Center of Ouargla which now groups under its authority the National Institute of Higher Education in Saharan Agronomy (INAFSAS – Decree No. 337-97 of 10 September 1997) alongside the five founding institutes: Institute of Saharan Agronomy Institute of Exact Sciences Institute of Law and Political Science Institute of Letters and Languages Institute of Economics and Social Sciences Kasbah University Merbah-Ouargla is currently composed of 10 faculties; each of them has several departments in accordance with the texts in force, in particular Executive Decree No. 13-100 of 2 Joumada El Oula 1434 corresponding to March 14, 2013 amending and supplementing Executive Decree No. 01-210 of 2 Joumada El Oula 1422 corresponding to July 23, 2001 establishing the University of Ouargla .. The University of Benghazi (UoB) was established on December 15,1955 under the name of “Libyan University”. The cornerstone of the university was the Faculty of Arts and Education, including 31 students and 6 staff members then. The univesity was founded in the center of Benghazi. In 1973, the university was shifted to its current location at the area of Garyounis. In 1976, the university’s name was changed into “University of Garyounis”. Now, the university includes various of faculties and centers of consulting, research, and service. The Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) started as a degree program that was established under the auspices of the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) in 1999. It was established as part of the recommendation of the Chetsanga Commission to devolve Chinhoyi Technical Teachers College and other similar colleges into degree granting institutions. This process saw the birth of the Chinhoyi Degree programmes offering two degree programmes that is, Production Engineering and Hospitality and Tourism. The Chinhoyi Degree programmes operated under the University of Zimbabwe from 1999 to 2001 when Chinhoyi University of Technology was established through the Act of Parliament number 15. At the helm like all Universities was his Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Comrade Robert Gabriel Mugabe and leading the administration was Professor Charles Muchemwa Nherera who was appointed as Acting Pro Vice Chancellor to run the degree programme and develop the institution into a fully fledged University. About the University The University of Zambia (UNZA) was established by Act of Parliament No. 66 of 1965. The first intake of students took place on 17th March 1966. The motto of the University, SERVICE AND EXCELLENCE has guided the development of the University since its inception. UNZA is situated in Lusaka on two campuses. The main campus is the Great East Road Campus and it is situated on the Great East Road, 6km from the town center. The other campus is the Ridgeway Campus catering for the Medical School. OUR BRIEF HISTORY The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) started as the Dar es salaam medical school in 1963. The school then transformed into the faculty of medicine of the university of Dar es salaam that in 1991 was upgraded and became a college–the Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS). In 1996, the Faculty of Medicine that was upgraded to a constituent College of the University of Dar es Salaam, with the aim of nurturing it to a full-fledged university later on was merged with the Muhimbili hospital to create the Muhimbili Medical Centre (MMC). Over the years MUCHS made significant achievements in terms of increased student enrollment and development of several new academic programmes. History of the University of Eswatini The University of Eswatini (UNESWA) developed from the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini (UBLS), formerly known as the University of Basutoland, Bechuanaland and Eswatini (UBBS), which had its headquarters in Lesotho between 1964 and 1975. The UBBS had developed from the Pius XII Catholic University College at Roma – itself the product of a long-held desire for an institution of higher learning for Africans, of the Catholic hierarchy in Southern Africa. From its foundation, Pius XII was a college of the more liberal University of South Africa (UNISA), to prepare students for the Bachelor of Arts degree. Following a special agreement reached with UNISA in 1954, under which courses were taught and examined, Pius XII was allowed to expand its academic horizons to include courses leading to UNISA’s degrees of Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Science, and a post-graduate Diploma in Education. By 1963 there were 180 students, both men and women, and substantial buildings including a science block, refectory, administrative building and workshops. HISTORY The roots of the University of Khartoum (U of K) go back to 1898 when Lord Kitchener of Khartoum proposed founding a college in memory of General Gordon. Funds for the proposed college were raised by private subscription, and the plans for the building were drawn by the Khedive’s architect, Fabricus Pasha. The new college, named the Gordon Memorial College, was officially opened in 1902, although it was not until 1903 that the buildings were completed and the first batch of primary level students were admitted. The College however, was never intended to be solely a primary school. A secondary stratum was added in 1905 for the purpose of training assistant engineers and land surveyors, and in 1906 a four year course for the training of primary school teachers was established. In January 1945, all these schools were brought under one administration in a special arrangement with the University of London. The College was upgraded in 1951 to become Khartoum University College. In the same year Kitchener School of Medicine was incorporated in the University College. Chancellors Message In response to the mentioned situations, Kismayo University was founded in the seaport city of Kismayo to be the first university ever established in southwestern region of Somalia on September 2005. When the Somali Central Government collapsed in 1991, all the educational institutions and other public properties ware destroyed. This has caused mass migration of Somali intellectuals from the country, Years later some of the Somali intellectuals recognized the needs of the regions that reasonable stable and has started quite number of primary and secondary schools.
